Internet Woes
After months of dealing with regularly disrupted internet services via AT&T wireless, I finally thought the technicians figured out the issue and that my web-surfing would no longer end in virtual wipeouts every 20 minutes or so. Unfortunately it is not to be. I will have to troubleshoot on my own. So, I had planned to go to Orange Park to first see a movie with my husband and stop in Staples to purchase a different USB wireless thingy if it is under $48.48, which is the balance on my teacher appreciation gift card I won at Belk this past year, but the movie I wanted to see has cycled through the theaters already! Wondering if that makes the trip into Orange park worthwhile, or not. I'll keep you posted...

Looking Ahead
Another day comes to a close, and I think I accomplished quite a bit today. After reviewing back over the new Common Core Standards, I came to the realization that the work I have put into my lessons over the years has come extremely close to what these new higher standards demand. Perhaps now there will be less resistance from the parents who have always thought my class was too challenging. I can't help but feel a sense of redemption. I hope I have enough time to put together three more major activities before we head back to schhol. Right now, I am in the middle of creating some visual discovery lessons to tie into primary resources, and I am having fun doing it. I have discovered some really cool websites I have never seen before. Oh yeah, I have even learned to embed a video into my powerpoint presentations. I just hope I don't lose the effects when I save for my school computer and open it there. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful I have what do have in my room, but sure wish the technology in my room is upgraded soon. I will keep you posted...

My first post - I'm thrilled!
It is July 27th, and my personal countdown for going back to work has begun. Even though I am entering my 18th year in the teaching profession, I find that each school year is exciting and new, sort of like the Love Boat, except that cruise ship had a Lido deck, a bartender named Isaac, and Captain Stubbing and on our campus we have the pink and blue wings, several Coke machines, and Dr. Sailor at the helm. Be forewarned, I am not sure how this blog adventure of mine will turn out, but I am willing to write down my thoughts and reflections of a day in the life of a public school teacher, if you are willing to read them and take them for what they are worth. Just so you know, if you read my posts, what you glean from them is non-transferable and non-refundable, like most trips, unless you opt for the travel insurance, of course; so if you are the overly cautious type, make your checks payable to Nicole Honour, but be sure to read the fine print. I've never gotten back diddly-squat from my go-to on-line trip booking service, which will remain nameless due to the fact that I don't want my first post to be tagged for defamation, even though some trips were less than smooth-sailing. So today, I am pulling up my anchor, and am preparing to set sail. Year 18 awaits me, and my passport to middle-school social studies has been stamped. Over the next two weeks I will be getting the cabin ready and preparing the itinerary for another fabulous excursion. I'll keep you posted.... (comments and questions are encouraged)
